Gateway

GATEWAY
I was in the gateway group, which was divided into many small subgroups. But nobody stuck strictly to the task that they were assigned. I was in the model group and the sphere group but I helped out the stepping stones group by helping them build their frames and also helped out the semi-sphere group by helping them mix concrete. I really enjoyed this project I mean I love working with my hands, I think it's the satisfaction that I get when I accomplish a hand built project. I also got to work with new people which I thought was really cool because I got to see other peoples work ethics.
First day working/practice molds
I had a lot of fun doing the practice molds because everyone was semi new to the whole concrete and molding thing. And I also got to work with my hands.

You can't always be serious and by the way the concrete is tasty.

IDEAS

These are just a few ideas that I had about our island. But we decided that it would be too hard to make these structures in a short period of time, which is a bummer because I really liked the designs.

I really loved working on the model because it was cool how we could replicate something without going into great detail so it was sort of like a gesture object in a model.

THE SPHERE

This was my first attempt at the sphere in which I used strainers to act as the mold and made the sphere in two parts. The one that I made in one piece is still drying. But all in all I think that This was a wonderful project and the sphere wasn't bad at all for my first time working with concrete.

Dialog

DIALOG
The purpose of this project was to create dialog between the skewers and the planes that we used in the last project. This was my first iteration and I wanted to make my object cantilever, meaning that one part extends out further than the other. I've always loved this concept and I wanted to put it into action with this project. Another reason for choosing the form that I did was because it closely relates to the unity project by using the planes and the skewers to reveal a distinguishing pattern.

This is my second iteration and I wanted to keep the same concept but bring the skewers closer together to see what that would do to the outcome of the piece.

This was my third iteration and i wanted to offset my skewers to see what effect that would have on the project. And I believe that it made it more unique and speak louder.

On my forth iteration I wanted to see the skewers not only offset but running through the middle of the piece, which made it kind of appear out of nowhere.
On this iteration I gave up on running the skewers through the middle and just stuck to my second idea.

This is the last iteration that I did, I thought I would try a different idea but it didn't really turn out as I had planed it to.

FINAL

I think that in the end my project turned out really good and I am proud of all the iterations and the failure because I would not have my project without them.

Unity Project

ITERATIONS

This is the iteration that started my whole project. I was messing around with my skewers and paper and started improving and then I got the image in my head of what I wanted my project to look like.

What I really liked about my design was the modularity of it. I thought that it was so unique that the parts depended on one another to bring them together as one.
This is a top view of my iteration and once I saw this pattern that it made I knew this is the design that I wanted. And I really love the simplicity of my design.

I really believe that making these iterations are a tremendous help and really get you to think about your project and to be innovative.
FINAL

The final product of my unity project it took a lot of measuring to get it just right and they were simple measurements but I was thinking too hard about them. But in the end I told myself that I wasn't going to beat myself up over it and that I was going to have fun with my project. But I felt really good about this project as soon as I started working on it, as soon as I picked up that bottle of glue I was lost in the project, it was all I thought about. And I really like the feeling that I got when i completed this project I felt so proud that I actually put my mind to something and completed it and to have that feeling is so great. I love the simplicity yet complexity in my design.
DRAWINGS

My unity graphic, which I thought about and it turned out better than I thought it would.
A closer look at the 12x12 graphic.
The gesture view of my unity project. At first i didn't really under stand the concept of the gesture drawing so it made it a little bit harder to complete. But I really love the way that it turned out.
A contour drawing of my unity project which as you can tell I do a lot of shading.
Plan view of my unity project which is a top view of the project. I think that the plan veiw gives a better representation than all of the other drawings.
Elevation view of the unity project which is a two dimensional view of the project from a side that shows the most detail. The elevation was done full scale.

Twig project

My very first model, which inspired my theme for the twig project, suspension.
My second model which helped me solve my problem of not using paper but the base seemed to be too bold and took away from the project.
This is the final product of my twig project. Instead of using foam board i used mat board which would hold my project and also allow for it to use the binding agent of tension.

Precedent for the twig project

I chose the Golden Gate bridge as my precedent for the twig project. I decided to use the bridge because it resembles the theme of my twig project, which is suspension. I think that suspension is an extremely fascinating concept and many people marvel at the complexity of these beautiful structures.

Leaf Project

This is my final product of the leaf project, the picture is not quite the way that I want it to be but maybe i will figure out how to edit the phot a little better in the future.
