Dualities

For duality I chose to show my project for studio, in which we had to chose a word that was given to us by our instructor. And my word was symmetry. But it can also be considered rhythm also, in the way it has symmetrical rhythm, which means that it is not completely symmetrical it may differ some.

Moment
To me a moment is a moment in time which is experienced, it's also a drawing or a place we all can experience whenever we want. So I chose the drawings that we did in Suzanne's class and the building that was assigned to my group was the EUC, as you can see I sketched the entranceway of the EUC.

Precedent
Well to me a precedent is something that an idea can evolve from, so technically anything can be a precedent. The romans adopted the columns from the Greeks but as you know used them for looks. They then used those in the Basilicas and the baths, inventing the arch, which then became known the Gothic Cathedrals.

Presence
The roman civilization was very modern in the fact that they were very innovative with. their designs and use of materials. They also applied commodity to their designs, focusing on the functional use of the structures. They also used the dome which represents baptism.

Metric
The romans used the metric system in some way, but not like we know it today. They used it to make the dome structures and other ecliptic ideas.

Finally all of these terms come together to make architecture advance to the level we now know it. Although it seems that some of the old design methods were lost in translation, I think that we can learn to make our structures have more meaning in their design.
